LLM travel writer Melanie Kruger heads to this luxury five-star resort to check out its recently renovated spa and try out the unique new concierge wellness program
There’s just something about arriving at a hotel and instantly feeling like it knows exactly what you’re thinking and feeling. It’s an experience I’ve only ever had once – at the five-star luxury Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman resort in the Caribbean – but it’s one that has stayed with me ever since.
It’s not every day you visit a hotel that anticipates your every need so accurately – cocooning you in personalised luxury, and making you feel instantly relaxed and at home. But as soon as I arrived, eager to check out the hotel’s recently renovated spa and impressive new wellness offerings, I was instantly blown away.
The Cayman Islands, if you’re not yet familiar, are located in the western Caribbean Sea. There are three islands, of which Grand Cayman is the biggest, and the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman resort is nestled on the western side, directly on the stunning Seven Mile Beach. It’s a prime position that sees a long stretch of powdery white sand, lined with swaying palms and lapped by the crystal clear ocean, just steps from anywhere in the resort – so it’s fair to say that it has a lot going for it when it comes to location, too.
You can always rely on the Caribbean to prove a welcome tonic when the weather is grey and rainy at home, and it certainly did just that. After a long flight from London Gatwick, and some airport chaos thrown in for good measure, it certainly was a sight for sore eyes – but the best, it turned out, was yet to come.
Hotel

The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman is a slice of tropical paradise
Arriving at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman – a Marriott Bonvoy property, by the way – the first impression is one of serenity and understated grandeur. The resort combines contemporary luxury with references to the islands’ British Caribbean heritage, and feels elegant without being overly formal; the service is polished, but not stuffy, and while the interiors are undoubtedly opulent, they somehow make you feel right at home.
The setting is, in short, the stuff dreams are made of. Soft, sugary white sand stretches on for miles in both directions, and the calm, clear turquoise waters that lap the shore just in front of the hotel are about as inviting as it could possibly get. The hotel’s section of the beach is lined with comfortable loungers and day beds that you can reserve for the day, and of course, there’s lounger service, too, so you never have to lift a finger when the mood for a cocktail strikes.
The resort boasts two stunning outdoor swimming pools plus a separate children’s pool and a whirlpool, and there’s a water playground called Starfish Cay with a waterslide to keep the kids entertained.
On that note, the hotel is family-friendly, although there were plenty of couples there, too. You can see why; when it comes to romantic settings, it doesn’t get much better than this, and with an adults only pool, lavish rooms and suites and an array of elevated dining options, there’s plenty to appeal to adults travelling alone – plus, there’s plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy their holiday in whatever way they would like.

The Saint June restaurant serves up Caribbean-inspired dishes with views along Seven Mile Beach
Beyond the pools and beach, the facilities are extensive. There’s a fully-equipped fitness centre featuring state-of-the-art Technogym equipment; tennis, pickleball and basketball courts; a nine-hole golf course designed by Greg Norman and a range of water-based activities to choose from, too.
Food and drink wise, the resort features six distinctive restaurants and lounges, plus one dedicated beach and pool bar, bringing the total to seven culinary venues.
Taikun, which serves up high-end Japanese fusion cuisine, was a personal favourite, and offered atmospheric dining and creative cocktails in an elevated setting – as was outdoor eatery Saint June, where you can enjoy tasty Caribbean-inspired dishes with views along Seven Mile beach.
Beyond that, there’s also the Andiamo Circolo Sportivo Italian restaurant, Blue by Eric Ripert and the Seven steakhouse, all of which hit the spot when it came to excellent food, great atmosphere and impeccable yet unpretentious service.
The Silver Palm Lounge is another great spot where you can enjoy light bites and afternoon tea by day, and transforms into a lively lounge boasting one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive collections of rare rums, hand-picked cigars, and live entertainment by night.
Service plays a fundamental role in the Ritz-Carlton experience, and always feels attentive rather than intrusive. This is a resort that understands the small details matter, and it’s something that became increasingly apparent as my stay unfolded.
To give just a small example – as as you will see, there are many – I was unwell for a couple of days during my stay with a cold I’d picked up on the flight, and when a waiter brought me up my room service order, he kindly asked if I’d like some fresh lemon and ginger tea.
Just a few minutes later, it arrived in my room – not even on the menu, but made just for me. He went above and beyond, and that’s the kind of service you always remember.
Rooms and suites

The resort offers light, bright and spacious rooms with ocean and resort views
The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman offers a range of different accommodation options to suit different holiday styles and requirements. There are 369 guest rooms and suites across its Ocean and Resort Towers, and whether you’re travelling as a couple, family or larger group, you’ll find something to suit.
I stayed in a Club Oceanfront Room, which was simply stunning, and boasted a private balcony overlooking the main swimming pool and the beach beyond.
This was undoubtedly the highlight; I’d find myself throwing open the sliding doors each morning, having made myself a coffee with the in-room espresso machine, eager to catch my first glimpse of the Caribbean for the day, and lingering here for a while just to take it all in before even thinking about getting dressed for breakfast. It was also an excellent spot later on in the day; from here, you can watch the sun set over the ocean before heading down to dinner, when the sky turns a myriad of pinks and purples, and it’s absolutely breath-taking.
Anyway, I digress; back to the room itself. It was suitably spacious (480 square feet, to be precise), and featured a grand, king-size four-poster bed at its centre, which was incredibly comfortable and in all honesty, quite difficult to get out of for that very reason. There was a large, flat-screen TV on the wall, plus a small sofa and a separate seating area with a small table and chairs.

There are a choice of lavish rooms and suites to choose from
In terms of the colour palette, think muted neutrals, which did an excellent job of creating a sense of spaciousness and ensuring that the room felt light and bright throughout the day. The aesthetic was rather minimalistic, with quality materials and sophisticated dark-wood furnishings punctuating the space and plush carpeting on the floor.
The large marble bathroom was quite something, too. There was a separate walk-in shower and oversized bath tub, plus a double vanity that came complete with luxurious Diptyque Paris toiletries, a hairdryer and an illuminated makeup mirror, as well as a sumptuously soft robe and slippers that you can pop on to head down to the spa.
As a benefit of staying in a Club Room, you also get exclusive access to the Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge, which Marriott Bonvoy Elite status alone doesn’t include, so it feels like an even more welcome privilege. You can head here for a buffet breakfast or lunch in a more intimate setting each day, or pop in for some light snacks, hors d’oeuvres and complimentary beverages throughout the day – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic – and yes, there are plenty of bubbles.
Other room types to choose from include Resort or Garden Views and a variety of suites, including Harbour Suites, Residential Suites with fully equipped kitchens, Ocean Front Residential Suites and the luxurious Ritz-Carlton Suite.
For guests seeking the ultimate in space and privacy, the resort also offers the Grand Cayman Penthouse and Seven South, an exceptional multi-suite configuration spanning almost 20,000 square feet.
The Wellness Experience

The resort offers the ultimate luxury wellness experience
But this is where things get really interesting, and might shed some light on exactly what I meant when I said that this resort just gets it.
Picture the scene: I’ve just arrived, after a long journey from London, feeling sticky, sweaty and all-round exhausted. My face is puffy from flying, I feel terribly bloated, and all I want to do is eat, relax and go to bed.
Lucky for me, then, that my reservation included the wellness experience programme – a bespoke, 360-degree circadian health blueprint that bridges the gap between expert clinical insight and luxury resort living. And in all honesty, this reimagined, first-of-its-kind wellness concept designed by Champalimaud Design and guided by on-site Wellness Consultant Nadine Dumas is rather a stroke of genius.
Rather than a static menu of pampering treatments, it’s designed as an active, integrated journey that adapts to your body’s specific biological rhythm from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep.
So what did that mean, in practice? Well actually, quite a lot, and it all started in my room. The idea is that the rooms of those partaking in the programme become an extension of it, so I was delighted to find an array of pampering treats waiting for me – including collagen face masks and depuffing under-eye masks that were exactly what I needed right there and then, plus an ESPA pillow mist, custom-designed silk sleep mask, pilates and yoga equipment and even a Theragun massage gun to ease those tired, aching muscles after the long flight.
Wellness is placed at the centre of your stay
The room was also stocked with specialised cold-pressed juices and functional smoothies developed in tandem with the resort’s culinary team, including signature anti-inflammatory and hydrating blends like Radical Mango (passion fruit and turmeric) and Evergreen Sea (coconut water and lime).
And to top it off, there was even a box of adaptogenic treats waiting for me – decadent, bite-sized mushroom-adaptogen infused chocolates designed to aid with stress management. Not that there’s much to be stressed about in this Caribbean slice of paradise, but they were certainly a welcome addition nonetheless.
But the wellness experience doesn’t stop when you leave your room; on your first day, you also get a 60-minute consultation with Nadine – an industry expert with nearly two decades of experience in functional medicine coaching, DNA testing, stress management, and hormonal/menopause health – do determine the plan of action for the rest of your stay.
In essence, it’s a holistic evaluation designed to uncover exactly how your body is functioning in real-time, and focuses on five key pillars of health: hormonal health, sleep architecture, stress and emotional wellbeing, metabolic nutrition and hydration, and movement and exercise.
Once you’ve been thoroughly assessed, Nadine coordinates the wellness programme for the rest of your stay – being careful, of course, not to encroach upon that much-needed beach and pool time.
She makes targeted treatment recommendations to be enjoyed at the recently reimagined spa and that align with your wider wellness goals, and schedules precise movement or mindfulness sessions (like the Sunrise Floating Sound Bath) to pull you away from “blue light” and actively lower your cortisol levels.
Oh, and with help from the resort’s culinary team, the in-room snacks and drinks are modified in line with your desired outcomes, too, to ensure you’ve always got a good stock of health-focused refreshments to reach for to help keep you on track.
The spa

The spa has been completely reimagined and now sprawls over 20,000 square feet
The resort’s spa was completely renovated last year and reopened in December 2025. Sprawling over an impressive 20,000 square feet, the design concept was inspired by Caymanite, a rare semi-precious gemstone unique to the island, and features coral reef and sea-washed white tones throughout.
Vein-cut travertine reception desks, mosaic marble walls and a checkerboard floor crafted from high-end Calacatta Viola marble all make for a space that feels elevated yet instantly soothing, and the connection of the space to the island and its natural environment is clear to see.
As part of the renovation, the wet areas were completely redesigned to incorporate a brand new hydrotherapy circuit, which features four state-of-the-art cold plunge pools and upgraded steam rooms and saunas. The relaxation lounges were also given a makeover, and there are now 16 custom treatment rooms in total, including three specialised couple’s suites.
I of course had to head down to check it out, and trying a treatment from the completely rewritten spa menu was top of my agenda. The spa has partnered with ESPA and 111 skin to offer a range of holistic, botanical and high-tech medical-grade treatments, so safe to say that you’ll be spoilt for choice – which is exactly where the Wellness Experience programme comes in handy.

The recently renovated spa at the The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman
I’d been kindly booked in for the 111Skin Exosome facial, which the spa is the first and only facility in the Caribbean to offer. This cutting-edge advanced cellular-messaging radiofrequency treatment, created by London-based plastic surgeon Dr Yannis Alexandrides, lasts for 90 minutes, and is designed to target a range of common skin concerns including the signs of ageing – such as fine lines and sagging – and skin fatigue by utilising cellular-signalling science.
Essentially, it uses microscopic marine spicules to open painless channels in the skin, allowing powerful cellular-signalling exosomes and antioxidants to absorb deeply – instantly plumping out fine lines, triggering long-term native collagen production and delivering a visibly lifted, sculpted complexion without any downtime.
I have to say that while I didn’t instantly feel ten years younger on emerging from the treatment room, my skin looked noticeably plumper and more radiant; had I not been in the throes of a cold, then I’m sure the results would have been even better, but I could certainly notice a difference nonetheless.
To do

Beyond the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman’s extensive spa, fitness and sports facilities, the resort places you in a prime location for enjoying some memorable activities and excursions.
It goes without saying that you’ll almost certainly want to spend some time relaxing by the pool and enjoying the beauty of Seven Mile Beach. An early morning swim, snorkel or paddle board is a great way to start the day, and offers the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of your surroundings from the water.
The Jean-Michel Cousteau Ambassadors of the Environment programme offers guided experiences that introduce you to Cayman’s marine life, ecosystems and local culture, including night-time snorkelling, shipwreck visits and underwater photography and science lessons. You can also try mangrove kayaking (I’d recommend), or take a bucket-list boat trip to Stingray City, where you’ll come face to face with southern stingrays in shallow sandbars – a must, even if just to observe them from a distance.
In a nutshell
For a next-level wellness experience in a paradise setting, head to the Ritz-Carlton, Cayman. With autumn now in full swing, it’s the perfect time to jet off to sunny Caribbean climes and enjoy a stay steeped in opulence at a resort that feels like it can read your mind. Trust me when I say that if you choose to stay here, you’ll want for nothing – and you’ll come back feeling like a completely new person.
