A stunning Madrid hideaway where historic elegance meets understated luxury, Hotel Urso pairs neoclassical charm with serene interiors in the heart of the city.

Currently one of Europe’s most captivating capitals, Madrid effortlessly combines grand architecture, world-class art, vibrant nightlife and a flourishing culinary scene with an easy-going sophistication.
Ideally positioned to experience it all, Hotel Urso offers a stylish stay, blending historic charm and thoughtful Spanish touches to create the perfect urban retreat.
Located close to the city centre between the trendy neighbourhoods of Chueca, Malasaña and Salamanca, the hotel is well situated for exploring the city’s boutiques, galleries, restaurants and historic landmarks.
It is around a 20-minute drive from Madrid Barajas Airport and within easy reach of metro stations (Tribunal is a two-minute walk away and Alonso Martinez is a three-minute walk away) and transport links.
Hotel

At Hotel Urso, classic architecture meets modern luxury
Hotel Urso is a five-star boutique hotel set within a restored early 20th century palace, where classic architecture meets modern luxury. Notably, the building was once the headquarters for Papelera Española, an old paper factory. Original features including stained-glass windows, a functioning wrought-iron and mahogany cage elevator, and elegant façades have been carefully preserved by architect Antonio Obrador, while the interiors embrace soft palettes and contemporary furnishings.
Alongside its relaxing spa, delicious restaurant, and lounge, the hotel offers a calm atmosphere that feels distinctly Madrileño.
Ideal for both leisure and business travellers, the hotel celebrates local craftsmanship and culture through artwork, gastronomy and personalised service, all while maintaining a warm and welcoming feel.
Arriving at Hotel Urso feels serene and polished – the hotel’s impressive historic façade leads through to bright interiors and airy lounges filled with natural light, plush sofas, curated book shelves, and leafy plants.
The reception team are friendly and efficient, offering recommendations for local restaurants and hidden corners of the city.
Room

The hotel’s rooms and suites are spacious and understated
The hotel’s rooms and suites are spacious and understated, including muted tones, oak floors, crisp white linens and lavish furnishings. Large windows allow plenty of natural light in, while details such as handcrafted ceramics and local art elevate the spaces and make them feel welcoming.
My junior suite corner room with triple aspect floor-to-ceiling windows was classically elegant, featuring soft shades of cream and grey. My four-poster bed with a wool headboard was big and comfortable, while the marble bathroom containing the hotel’s own branded toiletries felt spa-like.
I especially enjoyed the nightly turndown service with bedtime chocolates.
Food and drink

Casa Felisa offers a refined yet relaxed dining experience
The hotel’s restaurant, Casa Felisa, offers a refined yet relaxed dining experience centred around seasonal Spanish cuisine.
The menu celebrates high-quality local ingredients with dishes that feel modern while remaining rooted in tradition, from fresh seafood and grilled meats to vegetable dishes and jamon croquettes.
Impressively, celebrities including Ana de Arms and Jennifer Connolly have been spotted at Casa Felisa and, as expected, service is both amiable and attentive. Make sure you order the homemade millefeuille for dessert – it is really indulgent and tasty.
Breakfast is served beneath the hotel’s striking glass conservatory with pitched roof. Guests can enjoy an extensive buffet of fresh pastries, Spanish cheeses, cured meats, seasonal fruits and cakes, alongside an à la carte menu offering eggs, pancakes and local specialities.
The hotel’s lounge bar provides a cosy setting for evening cocktails or afternoon coffee, attracting both guests and locals with its intimate atmosphere and sophisticated design.
To do

The hotel’s spa provides the perfect place to unwind
After a day spent exploring Madrid’s museums, boutiques and bustling plazas, the hotel’s spa provides the perfect place to unwind. The wellness area includes a plunge pool, steam room, treatment rooms and relaxation space, offering a peaceful escape from the energy of the city above. Helpfully, for guests whose body clocks are still adjusting, the gym is open 24-hours.
Art lovers will appreciate the hotel’s close proximity to Madrid’s famed Golden Triangle of Art, including the Prado Museum, Reina Sofía, and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.
The nearby streets of Chueca and Malasaña are also ideal for discovering independent boutiques, lively tapas bars and stylish cafés.
For dinner, head to Allégorie in the Chamberí neighbourhood for creative fine dining in a chic setting, or visit Barrio de Salamanca for upscale dining, people watching, and designer shopping.
In the evenings, Madrid’s rooftop bars come alive, offering panoramic city views.
In a nutshell
Hotel Urso is a refined and beautifully balanced hotel that captures the city’s timeless elegance.
I loved its tranquil atmosphere, historical roots, and genuine sense of place, all of which made returning to the hotel after a day in the city feel like a true haven. Hotel Urso offers what feels like an elevated and authentically local experience of Madrid, which is a real treat for both new and returning guests.
